For licensed cosmetologists, hairdressers and barber apprentices ready to sharpen their skills and pass the New York State Board Exam to become a Master Barber.

The same 50 hours either way — pick the half of the day that fits your work. Tuition is split into two payments and includes the $100 registration fee.
Morning Program

Tools and supplies are purchased before classes start — we provide the list of acceptable tools. Funding accepted: ACCES-VR.
About the Program
Get Hands-On & Pass the Exam
The 50-Hour Barber Refresher program is intended primarily for licensed individuals wishing to enhance their skills — Cosmetologists, Hairdressers, and Barber Apprentices ready to take the NY State Board Exam to become a Master Barber.
Please note: the Barber Refresher course only applies for our Manhattan location (48 West 39th Street, New York, NY 10018) — it is not offered at the Bronx campus.
At ABI, we make sure every student is up to speed on classical haircutting, straight razor shaves, fades, tapers, scissor-over-comb techniques and modern hairstyles — properly prepared to sit for and pass the New York State Barbering Licensing Examination. We provide students with real clients for plenty of hands-on training.
Upon completion, students receive a 50-Hour Barber Refresher certificate, and we provide job placement assistance to every graduate.

Entrance Requirements
All You Need To Start
- Social Security Card or Tax ID Number
- High School Diploma or GEDNo HSD/GED? ABI administers an entrance exam. Foreign diploma? Notarized translation + copy of original.
- At least 17 years of age
- Proof of residential address
- Valid photo ID or driver's license
- $750 down payment

Two Weeks To Sharper Skills
The course consists of 50 hours given in 10 sessions of 5 hours each, five days a week over two weeks. New classes begin the first Monday of each month — next start: soon.
