Enrollment GuideFrom your first phone call to your first day of class, enrolling at American Barber Institute takes four simple steps. New classes begin the first Monday of every month.
American Barber Institute is licensed by the New York State Department of Education, and our Admissions Office is happy to answer any question along the way. If your circumstances are unusual, tell us — we'll work with you to remove obstacles to enrolling.
Call us or book a free campus tour in Manhattan or the Bronx. You'll meet our staff, see the training floors and get every question answered on the spot.
Bring these to registration. No High School Diploma or GED? ABI administers an entrance exam before enrolling. Foreign diplomas need a notarized translation plus a copy of the original.
Choose morning (Mon–Fri 8 AM–2 PM), afternoon (Mon–Fri 2 PM–8 PM) or weekend (Sat–Sun 9 AM–7 PM). Every schedule includes a weekly payment plan — from $150 per week — so you pay while you train.

Beyond weekly payment plans, qualified students can have training funded. ACCES-VR can cover tuition, tools and supplies for New Yorkers with documented disabilities, and eligible veterans and qualifying dependents can apply VA education benefits — including the GI Bill® — toward tuition.
